Life is a process where letting go is the only constant

When people are gone, we live with our memories of them, we curate what they mean to us, we erase wrongs.

They become who we want them to be, and we get to become who we would have wanted ourselves to be when we were with them, and let the human who has moved on be at peace.

I'm not sure when exactly,
friendship is a funny thing, creeping up on you slowly
you get used to having someone around,
when they are around long enough,
they become
a permanent fixture in your heart.

I'm not sure when exactly,
that Sadness and I became friends.
But, in any event,
we are close.

I'm sorry I can't laugh and
talk of nothing all the day long
with friends who don't know Sadness
the way I do.

I don't hate you, Sadness
I wish more people weren't so afraid of you
I find you
perfectly beautiful
a lonely and often quiet soul
and all the more beautiful for it.

I don't blame you, Sadness
for your all-consuming nature
and the wall of unavailability
we've built around us.

I just wish more people could
know you like I do
revel in you like I do
enjoy you like I do
and see really,
how you co-exist with Joy,
and not not invite you to parties.

The ghosts have incapacitated me

Why is it that the ghosts of our past haunt us even after a decade is old?
And thus, veiled in allusions and metaphors and sorry songs,
Mourning wracks and wrecks the soul.
No names cross my lips, but the story is told.

Bite the dust

The ghosts of him haunt every corner -
her wistful longing hunger
knawing through,
attempting to ignore this still -
they drift past, they pass through
she feels the icy chill; she trudges
on as the frost sets in on branches while
higher still, the infernal sun drenches
the world with vibrant ultraviolet oncogenic colours,
its tearing heat
welling up
torrid and torrential raining sun
sweltering down,
it does not warm
her beading brow,
or light her shaded eyes. Still
she cracks her pained face into a painted smile,
a paragon of politesse,
she remarks on the weather, and continues
her marathon through ice and fire,
as the ghosts of him around her loiter.
